At The Mockingbird Society, we work closely with youth to help them share their stories effectively, so they are empowered to change negative perceptions that stand in the way of those experiencing foster care and youth homelessness.
Youth who participate in the Speak Up! program are prepared to contribute to community conversations in a variety of ways, including:
Participating in focus groups or workgroups, public speaking for a wide range of audiences, or responding to requests from media outlets.
While Speak Up! activities take many forms, staff always involve participants in a structured preparation and feedback process to ensure readiness and improvement for future events. Participants receive stipends for participating in the Speak Up! program.
The Speak Up! program prepares youth experts to fulfill an array of public speaking and facilitation opportunities. Speak Up! helps youth participants build transferable skills and confidence while raising awareness.
