Coalitions

Coalition building and participation are also key parts of moving The Mockingbird Society’s policy agenda forward and maximizing the impact of our work. TMS convenes and chairs the Washington Coalition for Homeless Youth Advocacy (WACHYA), a coalition that unites advocates, providers, and funders in Washington state to advocate for, create, and implement effective policies to support homeless and at-risk youth in achieving safety and stability. TMS is also a founding member of the Child Welfare Advocacy Coalition (CWAC). In addition, TMS staff and youth advocates participate in many other coalitions related to child welfare and youth homelessness, consistently advocating to create space for authentic youth voice.

The Washington Coalition for Homeless Youth Advocacy (WACHYA) is a statewide partnership of providers, funders, and advocates dedicated to improving the lives of youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. WACHYA’s vision is that every night, every homeless youth in Washington state has a safe place to stay and the support they need to thrive and achieve healthy adulthood.

Child Welfare Advocacy Coalition

CWAC Membership and Operating Framework

Mission

Work with the Executive Branch and the Legislature to decrease the number of children who enter the child welfare system; ensure that children receive appropriate and quality care while in the child welfare system; safely return children home or place them with a permanent family more quickly; and successfully transition youth exiting the child welfare system.

Values

Maximize consumer voice in every CWAC decision and champion the inclusion of consumer voice in systems change and legislative advocacy.

View every CWAC decision through the lens of addressing racial disproportionality, gender equality and the best interest of children and families.
