It was another celebratory Youth Advocacy Day this past January (and if you haven’t been to one then check out the video)! At Youth Advocacy Day there were over 340 youth, adult supporters, and community partners that came together to advocate for the three priorities on this year’s agenda. One was about having the Mockingbird Family Model be evaluated so that data can be collected to affirm what we already know to be true – that this is an innovative way to deliver foster care. The other two priorities were about allocating funding for HOPE Beds as well as Street Youth Services, a program which aims to get youth off the streets and into a safe place.
Advocating at the capitol was an invigorating and inspirational time where youth shared their experiences with legislators on ways to improve foster care and to end youth homelessness. It’s never too late to advocate with The Mockingbird Society, as we are constantly working to create change year-round. Feel free to join us to learn more and to find a way to get involved!
